Food Prices

With the average American family of four spending over $900 each month on food, things are looking a bit grim on the financial front. Food costs are rising. I can complain about the prices on organic foods or superfoods or prepared Raw treats, but for millions of people, simple staples like corn and beans and rice are priced out of reach.

I know nothing about this organization, but it was the 1st I found that seemed to have suggestions on what the average person can do.

From where I sit on my couch, I can reach out and grab bananas, pears, oranges and grapefruit. I'm feeling quite blessed this morning.

Thanks for posting. I will have to watch the Haiti clip when I have moment to sob. That's where my father's family is from. So sad that they eat dirt-hey hopefully it has some minerals.

My sis was a relief missionary in the Dominican Republic and has stories of Haiti's *other half of the island* So sad. We are lucky.

Thanks for sharing. It's these reminders that make me grateful for what I have and to not complain so much.

Hey thanks for the suggestion on my blog - you're right about the alcohol. Didn't even occur to me that was why I was tasting it...it's not being cooked out! Silly of me. :) I'll have to check out alcohol-free extracts.

Hope you have a good weekend!

I'm going to keep filling up your comment page! LOL

Hey, where is that recipe for the raw tacos with mango salsa you mentioned a few posts back? Was that on Gone Raw? Is it by the Daily Raw (Terilynn)? I've been trying to find it. Anyway, if it's something you can steer me in the right direction I'd be grateful for it but if it can't be shared, that's okay, no hard feelins. Thanks!

Rosie - Luckily for me, but unfortunately for you, I bought the raw tacos and mango salsa at my local Mother's market! Mango salsa would be pretty easy to make though. Just take a basic salsa recipe and substitute mango for the tomatoes. This one had mango, cilantro, red onion and maybe jalapeno. The tacos were cylindrical, hard shells, unlike anything I've made at home--so far.

Thanks for the tips - I will have to experiment with this. It just sounds so good!
